Botanical subjects become a palette of color, line and form which he shapes and paints, through the purposefully narrow focus of his lens. Nourok's other photographs have been published, commercially and editorially, around the world through his experience in stock photography. His extensive and diverse background includes still life, medical, photojournalism, sports, travel, public relations, and portrait photography. | Lori Sokoluk | ||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Inspired by the landscapes in which she has lived - Canadian prairies, the intense cityscape of New York City, and most recently the West Coast rain forest - Lori's realistic work captures just enough detail to launch the mind and heart. Executed in watercolors, acrylics, or drawing media, Lori has evolved a loose realism that evokes connections in the viewer to landscapes and dreamscapes of their own experience. Her non-representational work draws upon years of yoga, meditation and martial arts practice to explore the depths of our being, both light and dark. Our struggles and our sublime nature are manifest in these powerful new works. Born in Edmonton, Lori has lived and studied in New York, Boston, and Halifax. She now resides in Vancouver, a professional artist, sought-after instructor and demonstrator, after careers in architecture and software development. Lori has studied privately, and at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her work is included in private and institutional collections in Canada, the United States, Japan, Pakistan, India, and the United Kingdom. She is a member of REDSOKIL ARTS, a studio, teaching, and exhibition space in Vancouver, Canada. Lori is inspired by Gerhard Richter, Mark Rothko, Odilon Redon, and Wolf Kahn, as well as the occasional glass of single malt scotch whiskey. | |||||||
| Matthieu LeBlanc | ||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Matthieu LeBlanc's relationship with wood began in 2002 after completing his first year of Interior Design at Ryerson University; it was there that he discovered his love for working with the medium. Armed with this new insight, he moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he attended Nova Scotia Community College to study Wood Manufacturing. During his time there he began an exploration in woodturning that would prove pivotal in his career. Necessity dictated that Matthieu use salvaged wood that was unseasoned. Consequently the challenges imposed upon him by the irregular pieces heavily influenced his work until a cohesive style began to emerge. It was this happy accident, coupled with the discovery of works by artists George Nakashima, Wharton Esherick, and Sam Maloof that guided his explorations. The move to Montreal in 2006 allowed Matthieu to receive more training in the form of apprenticeship, and set up his own shop to begin working on larger projects. Here he had the opportunity to hold his first show, collaborate on projects with HUMA Designs, and put some of his design ideas to the test. In 2009 he moved back to Vancouver, BC where the size of the timber offered him the opportunity to work on a much larger scale. He has since discovered an affinity for working with Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, and the Arbutus tree. | |||||||
